3.5 Quick Draw Stars

This book was told in my MOST FAVORITE way, DUAL POV! However, there are two other POV's, unfortunately at times, by the horrible Talbot men.

Desperado Jones is most likely the FASTEST draw gunslinger of the West. He has a scary reputation and surprisingly has a clean record with the Law. He blows in to Trouble Creek where he definitely finds himself a heap of trouble to deal with. Question is, does he want to stay and deal with it all? Or ride away and forget he even stepped foot back in the town he knew once as a child? And once he meet's Chloe, who he can't get out of his head, will he be able to walk away from her? Decisions...decisions...

Chloe Sommers is a single woman with fantastic curves and is a beauty that slime-ball Tate Talbot just can't seem to stay away from. Even at the risk of harm to himself. She runs her own ranch and raises cattle. The day Desperado rolls in to town is the same day Chloe is out to hire a Gun Hand to protect her cattle on their way to the rail-head in another state. She tries to get Desperado, yet he denies her at every chance he can until he's offered a price he can't refuse.

Talbots run, or more like bully, the town. Calvin is the mayor and land surveyor and his son Tate is just a big whiner who wants whatever he wants and feels like he can have it at any price. The Talbots are making serious trouble for Chloe as they have designs on her ranch. She needs more then ever to get her cattle to the railhead to make the best profit she can to pay her taxes. The Talbots will go out of their way to do anything they can to make that NOT happen.

I really enjoyed a good portion of this book. I felt like it was fast paced most of the time and I loved the first half. The second was a bit slower for me but then seemed to pick up again towards the end. There were times I wanted to smack Desperado for his ROSE COLOR GLASSES, comments and actions. Sometimes he was slow on the up-take. lol. Eventually he finds value in certain things, wisen's up, and becomes pretty loyal. There were times I thought that Chloe was a push over when she was trying to be a tough bad ass. Also, she had big news to share towards the end of the book that I felt like she could have pushed harder to share. she eventually does, it just took too long for my liking.

All in all I enjoyed this book and I always have love for cowboy's and cowboy stories.

Gunslinger Connie Mason 9780843945324 Books Reviews

Every time I thought this story might be becoming trite, there was a little twist that made it different & fresh. I loved the characters & the plot. I look forward to reading more by this author.
My first book by Connie Mason was impressive by its excellent editing, above all. I found only one major typo "Calvin vin said", and one minor error "reign/rein".

The story was fun and interesting, with a variety of characters. Some scenes tended to drag and be repetitive, but the story was good for a free ebook.
Desperado and Chloe. What a great couple, so strong and passionate. My first western romance read, I really enjoyed it. Connie's writing had me back in time, out west with the cattle drive and cliff hangers. I love how Desperado couldn't keep his hands off Chloe, and the same for her, she couldn't help but fall for him and his dimple! I'll be back to read more of her books.
Thank you for the sweet note about your wife. Such a nice tribute to her.
i loved this book. Logan finally goes home after years of being away after his father sends him away because his step-mother doesn't like him. Years later, after a near death experience, he decides to stay away, allowing his father to think his dead to punish him. he goes back after his father is dead, searching for something, he didn't know what. He finds Chloe and now he has to decide if he wants to keep being Desperado Jones or Logan her step-brother.
I've read Ms. Mason when I was a girl and it seems she provides the same 'edge of your seat' entertainment as she did then. I'll confess I seem to slip into those books where the chick is 'unreasonable' and love to be as frustrated as the dudes involved.

Bad boys are what we want but it doesn't work if somehow, deep down, he wants to be good for his girl. As much as we like bad boys, there's bad and then there's just downright slimy. In Gunslinger, slimy presents itself as smart and slimy.

Thanks to a good read, there's hope that like in the book, smart and slimy gets what's coming to them in real life. We have to thank Ms. Mason for making comeuppance better than we could have imagined.
I am a big fan of westerns and unfortunately it's not that easy to find a great one. The Gunslinger is good, not great. I liked the character of Desperado (but could he have a cheesier name??)and I know some complained about him being sexist, but come on, it was the Wild Wild West in the 1800s!! If he wasn't, it wouldn't have felt authentic. So I actually appreciated the way he was written.

The book was surprisingly long which is not a bad thing. I felt like the characters could have been fleshed out a little better and the author didn't put any effort into writing Tate's character. He was a cheap caricature of a villain. I'm seeing this trend in several books I've read recently. Other than that, the book has plenty of heat and a cute HEA, so I would recommend it. I do have to list a few GREAT books set in this era in case anyone is interested The Outsider by Penelope Williamson, Fair is the Rose by Meagan McKinney and A Heart So Wild by Johanna Lindsey. I love westerns and have yet to find any others I love as much as the ones I've listed. But I'll keep looking!
